The carrying medium of a belt conveyor system is called a conveyor belt; the term "belt conveyor" is frequently abbreviated. There are numerous varieties of conveyor systems, including belt conveyor systems. The conveyor belt, a closed loop of carrying medium, revolves around two or more pulleys, also known as drums, in a belt conveyor system. The belt and its contents move forward when one or both of the pulleys are powered. The unpowered pulley is referred to as the idler pulley, and the powered pulley is known as the drive pulley. Belt conveyors fall into two major industrial classes: bulk material handling, which includes the transportation of agricultural and resource materials like grain, salt, coal, ore, sand, overburden, and more, and general material handling, which includes the moving of boxes inside a factory.
